Ministers have been terrible at getting ahead of problems before they arrive and in 15 years we’ll have even more people with neurological conditions and multiple co-morbidities [illnesses] who need looking after from specialists and we simply must have the numbers of staff to cope.
Pressed on how long it will take to see the benefits of the changes, Mr Sunak conceded it could take “five, 10, 15 years for these things to come through”. He added: “I’ve always said the overall waiting list was not going to come down until next year.”and virtual wards. The new package of measures is also expected to include more details on apprentice-doctor roles which NHS England hopes will fill staffing gaps.
