Juvet – located on the northwest coast of Norway, just outside the village of Valldal – is a 24-bed hotel set up in a birch forest that offers a “high-contrast encounter between the beautiful cultural landscape and innovative architecture, built with the desire to make the least possible interference in nature”.Go on, chides their website, it’s “a once-in-a-lifetime escape. An architectural gem. Surrounded by untamed pristine wilderness. Open your soul and connect to nature.
Among the luxury lodgings, there’s seven “unique and minimalistic landscape rooms” – the cabins that Kendall and Roman found wholly unsuitable – then two ‘birdhouses’, a four-bed writer’s lodge and the boardroom, where Hugo loaded up on that delicious-looking brunch spread.Then there’s the steam room and bath house – ideal for sitting naked with your colleagues, unable to look anyone in the eye – as well as a traditional barn for dining.
The birdhouses start at 4,600 NOK a night, although that includes breakfast and dinner, while the landscape room rises to 5,700 NOK a night, and the writers’ room at 8,300 NOK a night, also including meals. The hotel opened in 2010, and has won several architecture awards as well as appearing in a wealth of the aesthete’s choice of magazines.
