PSNI detective claimed detention was necessary for the defendants’ own protection
A student took part in a £500,000 cannabis exchange in south Belfast under death threat from a Chinese Triad known as “Big Brother”, a court heard today.
Belfast Magistrates’ Court heard police spotted the exchange taking place at Osborne Park on March 1. Xie was allegedly observed wearing forensic gloves and moving a cardboard box from his car to Goh’s vehicle. Xie, a finance student at the University of Westminster in London, told police he had been invited to Belfast for a holiday by a friend he would only refer to as “Big Brother”. That unnamed individual is a member of a Chinese Triad gang with access to guns, it was claimed.
“Mr Xie has stated that he carried out the exchange in fear of serious violence at the hands of someone he told police was a triad and had access to firearms,” he said.
