The region will probably continue to see rain and snow in March.
Pedestrians stand under an umbrella on a path in front of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2023.Anyone who plans on picnicking at Lake Merritt or Dolores Park in March should still pack an umbrella: Spring is coming, but the rain is here to stay, theLow-pressure systems — zones of rotating showers — will likely pass over the Bay Area this weekend and the week after, Brayden Murdock, an NWS meteorologist, told SFGATE.
“What that means is we're not getting those torrents of rain like we saw in January, but we see fairly long-lasting rain events with a bit more moderate to light rain,” Murdock said. “So kind of like what we saw today. We had that initial band but then scattered showers afterwards.” This wet weather pattern will likely persist throughout the month before finally phasing out after April.
“It does look like the storm door is going to remain open,” Jan Null, a meteorologist who runs the private forecasting company Golden Gate Weather Services, told SFGATE over the phone. The region will likely continue to see rain and snow in March, he added. “It does not look like we’re going to go into a dry pattern.”
Luckily, these low-pressure fronts are expected to be much less severe than the bomb cyclone that wreaked havoc on Northern California in December and January. “It's kind of a different horse compared to what we're seeing as far as atmospheric rivers go,” Murdock continued.
