The Met Office has issued a rare warning for parts of the UK
Residents of Edzell in Angus climb over flood defences in the village, ahead of anticipated dangerous levels of rain in the area More than 350 homes have been forced to evacuate after Storm Babet has battered parts of north-east Scotland. Angus council have set up emergency shelters in the town of Brechin and urged locals to take refuge there until further notice.
Extensive flooding, road closures, loss of power and collapsing buildings should all be expected by communities in the area. Scotland’s Deputy First Minister Shona Robison said: ‘The strong message is that if you are in the parts of Angus and South Aberdeenshire affected – please stay at home and do not travel.’ This morning, a new amber rain warning covering a swathe of northern England and a patch of Scotland was issued, covering Friday to Saturday.
