For years, the local soup kitchen has run a community garden near downtown Fairbanks.
On Saturday, June 4, between 50 and 60 supporters gathered to plant vegetables and flowers for the season.Potatoes, cabbage, broccoli, kale, beans, carrots and radishes were among the items planted.
Peter Miller, Garden Coordinator, said the food “goes to feeding the community. It’s really a garden that’s for everybody. It’s open, as you can see, and sometimes folks come and they can graze a little bit and that’s okay, but most of the food just goes to the kitchen to feeding hungry people in the community.”
