Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper says he has been more concerned over Brennan Johnson’s fitness this summer than speculation over his future.
“He’s probably, in medical terms, played more than he should have because he picked up his injury in the second Wales game and was injured all through the summer and most of pre-season. He returned only a few days before we went to Frankfurt, looked really good because he’d really committed to his rehab, so we gave him a start, and then the same last week at Arsenal.
When asked if he had spoken to Johnson about keeping a clear head amid all the rumours, Cooper added: “I’ve constantly been having one-to-ones with him for the last two years, which probably sometimes he might enjoy and sometimes he doesn’t. So that hasn’t really changed.
