The national team boss is not keen on chasing after players to pull on the famous jersey.
Scotland boss Steve Clarke insists he won’t go begging Newcastle duo Harvey Barnes and Elliot Anderson to sign up for his Euro 2024 squad.
“I then got a phone call to say he wanted to come. So we brought him up, he picked up knock and went back. And it puts him in the situation where he was before he came to camp.It was put to the Scotland boss he might not lose any sleep over Anderson’s decision, given the wealth of options he already has in midfield. Clarke - who has successfully lured both Lyndon Dykes and Che Adams into his squad - replied: “Well, if you look at what we’ve got in the squad.
“I want a Che Adams, I want a Lyndon Dykes - guys who were on board from the first minute they walked in the door, on board with everyone in it. They understand what it means to everybody within the group. “The more successful you are the more people want to play for you. But there are a lot of Scottish boys not in the squad who want to pay for me as well - boys who have been with us, boys who have been in previous squads. They want to be involved as well.
“If we can find people who can help with that then that’s what we’ll do. But for now I understand why you ask the questions about Harvey and Elliot, but in my head it’s a little bit disrespectful to the people we’ve got so far that have put us in this position.”
