Statues of Jackie Robinson and Cy Young will be next to George W. Bush in Williamsport's Market Square.
WILLIAMSPORT, PA - FEB 23: The second base sculpture as part of the Bases Loaded sculpture in downtown Williamsport, PA., Wednesday, February 23, 2022. The series of sculptures commemorates the history of Little League with twelve individual statues. WILLIAMSPORT – Former President George W. Bush and the widow of Jackie Robinson will be among the dignitaries taking part in the dedication of the final three Bases Loaded project statues in Williamsport.
The public unveiling of the statues of Bush, Robinson and Cy Young will occur at 5 p.m. but streets in the Market Square area will be closed beginning at noon.Bush, who played Little League, is the only sitting president to have attended the world series. He did so in 2001 when the was enshrined in the Hall of Excellence, Little League’s equivalent of baseball’s Hall of Fame.
The centerpiece of the project are statues on the four corners of Market Square each depicting different eras of Little League’s history.
