Gutierrez, a San Antonio Democrat whose district includes Uvalde, has said he has been stonewalled in his attempts to learn what happened on behalf of his constituents.

Gutierrez, who has been an outspoken critic of the police reponse, said he filed an open records request for several documents and other information relating to the May 24 shooting at Robb Elementary, in which a gunman killed 19 children and two teachers and injured another 17 people.Who ‘misled’ Greg Abbott about police response to school shooting? Uvalde mayor says he knows

Gutierrez’s lawsuit, filed in Uvalde, is a follow-up to an open records request he filed on May 30. The suit said DPS had not responded to his request in 10 days, as required by law. The suit makes claims similar to what some residents of Uvalde and others have alleged — that there is a cover-up. Uvalde Mayor Don McLaughlin has pushed back and denies there is a cover-up.
