Rogue One is getting re-released in IMAX with an exclusive look at new footage from the upcoming Star Wars show Andor.
Rogue One will be re-released in select IMAX theatres, alongside an exclusive look at the upcoming Andor series. The first Star Wars anthology series film, Rogue One serves as a prequel to the original 1977 Star Wars film, A New Hope, and details the Rebel Alliance's first real victory against the Empire that is referred to in the debut film's opening crawl.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Originally released in theaters in December 2016, Rogue One received positive reviews, with critics praising its story, visuals, musical score, and acting performances. Though the film also faced some criticism, it went on to gross over $1 billion worldwide, landing it in the top 20 highest-grossing films list at the time and second-highest-grossing-film of 2016, in addition to garnering two Academy Award nominations, for Best Visual Effects and Best Sound Mixing.

About a month ahead of Andor’s premiere on Disney+, this re-release of Rogue One serves as a great refresher for Star Wars newbies and long-time fans alike, as the film segues into the upcoming series. The theatrical return also marks a historic first for Disney and Star Wars, as Rogue One's return marks the first time that Disney is re-releasing a film to promote an upcoming Disney+ series.
While it's interesting that the upcoming Andor series, in particular, got special treatment with its film relative Rogue One being the first Star Wars film to get a proper re-release, it's also not so surprising that Disney would be excited to really bring back the hype for this era in the Star Wars universe.
