Disney and Lucasfilm finally reveal who will play the live-action Hera Syndulla in Rosario Dawson's upcoming Ahsoka series that will be on Disney+.
Disney and Lucasfilm cast a big-name star to play live-action Hera Syndulla in the Star War series, Ahsoka. Two years after the House of Mouse acquired Lucasfilm, Star Wars Rebels was released on DisneyXD in 2014 which debuted the Ghost Crew. That includes the team's leader, Hera.
During Star Wars Celebration 2023 in London, Mary Elizabeth Winstead has been revealed to play Hera in Ahsoka. Despite the lack of confirmation from Disney and Lucasfilm, Star Wars fans have cast her as the quintessential Hera Syndulla. Whether Dave Fioni and Disney were tuning in with what the public was saying is uncertain, but the fact that Winstead ultimately landed the role amid the fan casting is exciting.
Debuting in the Ahsoka trailer, Winstead's Hera stays true to her Star Wars Rebels version. She's courageous and brave as she expertly pilots an aircraft. It appears that the Disney+ show will lean on Hera's innate leadership skill that was prevalent in the DisneyXD project. As seen in the newly-released footage, Hera is delivering a speech to New Republic pilots which is setting up her prominent role in the post-Star Wars: Return of the Jedi universe.
The new Ahsoka footage will adapt Heir to the Empire as the titular character, alongside her allies, including Hera, will face off against Grand Admiral Thrawn. Beyond the Disney+ show, it's uncertain where else Hera and the Ghost Crew will appear again in the Star Wars universe. With The Mandalorian movie coming, there's a chance that Filoni might bring these Star Wars Rebels characters to the big screen.
