Late Friday, Johnson’s agency — Klutch Sports — announced he had signed a four-year, $80 million extension that will keep him locked up through the 2026-27 season.The structure of the deal is unknown. Johnson can earn a maximum of $22.5 million in 2023-24, which would make him one of the highest-paid players in Spurs history.The most Tim Duncan earned in a single season was $21.1 million in 2011-12.No matter how Johnson’s contract is organized, he’ll see a hefty raise from the $3.
He also connected on 39.8 percent from 3-point range last season, ranking second on the club among players with at least 200 attempts. With Murray in Atlanta and Lonnie Walker having signed a one-year deal with the Los Angeles Lakers, Johnson has has been with the team longer than any player on the current roster besides Jakob Poeltl, who arrived in the summer of 2018.Despite that longevity and the promise of a healthy new paycheck, Johnson’s long-term place in the Spurs’ renovation project remains to be seen.
