Latest Nottingham Forest news as Steve Cooper's Reds draw 0-0 with Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park
One name dominated the post-match chatter on a mild October evening in the capital - and it tended to be accompanied by a puff of the cheeks.
Murillo magic First, there was the pass to Morgan Gibbs-White. That was exquisite. It was a beautiful diagonal ball, which Gibbs-White watched drop onto his foot. The attacker looked to cushion it home with an equally-brilliant first-time effort but was left with his head in his hands as it bounced off the post and into Sam Johnstone’s arms.
“Everybody has asked me about that,” head coach Steve Cooper said of Murillo’s first-half shot. “It ended up being the chance of the game, from what he did to get there - which was spectacular. It isn’t just Awoniyi’s goal threat which the Reds will miss, it is his all-round contribution in games which isn’t easy to replace. With a bit of good fortune, the international break means he shouldn’t miss too many games. But his absence will still be keenly felt.
The latter is still getting up to speed a bit, having arrived on loan from AC Milan on deadline day and made four substitute appearances so far. He has scored goals in the Premier League before, though, while Wood is also capable of finding the back of the net. Niakhate started at left-back against Brentford due to Ola Aina and Nuno Tavares being out. Aina has been excellent, and the hope is he will be available after the break. But even his instant return to the side is not quite a given.
“I don’t think a clean-sheet and a point away from home should ever be looked at in a negative way. But when you play like we did at times and create the chances we created, it does leave you with a bit of a feeling of - although pleased - thinking we should have won.
