Nearly 53% of students enrolled in K-12 across the state are Hispanic, according to Texas Education Agency data.

It can be “aggravating having to go back and forth and having to translate everything, making sure I don’t miss a single thing,” Ibarra said. Although districts are “overwhelmed” — with educators addressing teacher shortages, learning loss and other pressing needs — Queiroz Vaughn said schools must proactively tackle language barriers when sharing such sensitive or important information.
