Southwest Airlines will be allowing Rapid Rewards members to bring one person with them for free with its new Companion Pass promotion.
Usually, customers need to fly 100 one-way flights in a year or get 135,000 qualifying points to geta companion pass for one year.and purchase a round trip or two one-way flights with Southwest, must travel by September 30 and designate one passenger to fly for free. Customers will be allowed to change their companions up to three times.
“The Companion Pass is one of the most coveted airline perks in the industry, rewarding customers for being part of our Rapid Rewards loyalty program,” Jonathan Clarkson, vice president of marketing at Southwest Airlines, said in a. “As the airline with Heart, we want our customers to feel appreciated for flying with Southwest, and what better way to do that than to offer the opportunity to travel and share experiences with a companion.
Though companions will be able to fly for free, they must still pay for taxes and fees, which start at $5.60, according to the company. Rapid Rewards members will be able to use their rewards points when purchasing a ticket, however, points will not be rewarded to the companion.
