Families hoping to catch a Southwest Airlines flight after days of cancellations, missing luggage and missed family connections suffered through another wave of scrubbed flights, with another 2,500 pulled from arrival and departure boards. According to the FlightAware tracking service, more than 91% of all canceled flights in the U.S. on December 28, 2022 were from Southwest, which has been unable to recover from ferocious winter storms that raked large swaths of the country over the weekend.
One woman can be heard in the video identifying herself as an attorney asking the officer to clarify the threat. The officer says because the passenger's flight has been canceled they aren't valid ticket holders and are not allowed to be in the area. Buttigieg, who has criticized airlines for previous disruptions, said that "meltdown" was the only word he could think of to describe this week’s events at Southwest. He noted that while cancellations across the rest of the industry declined to about 4% of scheduled flights, they remained above 60% at Southwest.
