The hospital trust is in the process of merging with that of St Helens and Knowsley
NHS chiefs have given an update on plans to merge a Lancashire hospital trust with another which another from Merseyside.
The plan has been in the works for several years with Southport and Ormskirk considered to be unsustainable as its own organisation. In 2021, STHKNHS chief executive Ann Marr OBE was appointed to the same role at SONHST and a temporary partnership has been in place since then.As first reported by the Health Service Journal, staff at Southport and Ormskirk have now been told their employment is being transferred to the St Helens and Knowsley trust.
Announcing the move in 2021, leaders said the long-term collaboration will ensure high quality and sustainable services; give staff greater flexibility; make best use of resources; and give Southport and Ormskirk the "benefits and experiences" of an Outstanding-rated trust. The decision, which received the backing of NHS England, was made amid concerns over a dozen ‘fragile’ services, the trust’s financial position, and its struggles to attract and retain staff.
"Together, we have secured significant investment to further enhance services, improve patient experience, and offer greater scope for staff development. The next step in further developing and strengthening this relationship is to come together formally to create one single, new organisation.
