Slack CEO Stewart Butterfield to exit Salesforce in January. 'This has nothing to do with Bret's departure.'
Slack CEO and co-founder Stewart Butterfield is leaving Salesforce in January.Salesforce acquired Slack in 2021 for nearly $28 billion. Butterfield posted his announcement, viewed by Insider, to an internal Slack channel at Salesforce on Monday morning.
The news comes just days after Salesforce announced that CEO Bret Taylor will depart the company in 2023. "FWIW: This has nothing to do with Bret's departure. Planning has been in the works for several months! Just weird timing," he wrote. Lidiane Jones, currently executive vice president and and general manager of digital experiences clouds at Salesforce, will take over for Butterfield as CEO of Slack, according to the memo."Stewart is an incredible leader who created an amazing, beloved company in Slack.
