Joe's 'cash-shredding' stunt is up for media moment of the year, while Sir Rod and Alison are nominated as celebrity allies

Sir Rod Stewart, comedian Joe Lycett and Alison Hammond are just some of the nominations up for a gong at this year's British LGBT Awards.

It comes after Sir Rod, who is up for a celebrity ally award, openly spoke out about Qatar's human rights during last year's World Cup in a country where homosexuality is illegal. He also claimed he previouslt turned down a $1million offer to play there, saying "it's not right to go". Joe filmed himself destroying bank notes when he got no response from Becks, but he later revealed they were fake and instead donated the real cash to an LGBT charity. His stunt has him shortlisted for media moment of the year.Awards founder Sarah Garrett, said: "It is more important than ever that we shine a light on those who have stood shoulder-to-shoulder with the LGBT+ community, during what has been another very challenging 12 months for the community.
