People participate in the 31st annual San Antonio International Women’s Day March on Saturday, March 12, 2022. This year’s march slogan was “¡No nos moverán! We Will Not Be Moved!”With her arm over her 11-year-old daughter’s shoulder, Esperanza Garza-Danweber weaved through downtown streets with other marchers Saturday during the San Antonio International Women’s Day March & Rally.
An ever-present drive to support of women’s rights and a concern over Gov. Greg Abbott’s recent directive regarding transgender children were two things that drew Garza-Danweber to this year’s march that started in Travis Park. “This new threat is terrifying,” Garza-Danweber said. “Somebody’s got to get out there. We have to show our solidarity.”Texas judge halts CPS investigations into families of trans kids, ruling Abbott overstepped
March organizer Rachell Tucker, from the Party for Socialism and Liberation, said recent traumatic events like the COVID-19 pandemic make it especially important for people to “heal together by demonstrating.”
