Wales are in search of a quick bounce with just nine months to go to the World Cup in France and Gatland admitted taking on the challenge was something he found hard to resist.
Gatland accepted he was risking his legacy as Wales coach following his decision to come back. “Of course, but that’s the exciting thing about it. I’m under no illusions what the expectations are, but I’ve always loved the challenges. Edwards was Wales’s defence coach throughout Gatland’s Wales reign, and also worked with him at Wasps, but he ruled out any reunion now having just signed a four-year extension to his contract with France.
“The person who Warren will want to bring back more than anybody is Rob Howley. They have a very close relationship. It doesn’t have to be as attack coach because they already have a very good attack coach in Stephen Jones.
