Sharon Gerein worked with the provincial government for 13 years before a quarter century at CBC. She retired in 2023.
Prior to her time with the public broadcaster, Gerein had worked with the provincial government for 13 years. Feeling unfulfilled, she decided to switch it up and enrolled in journalism school.

In that position, she was the decision maker behind many current affairs news stories which hit the airwaves throughout the province.
“It was such a pleasure to find these joyful stories when the world’s focus was only on the pandemic,” recalls Gerein. Gerein was at home the day after the crash, “feeling a little sorry” for herself, when her work phone began to light up and kept lighting up because of the crash. So, she called into work and asked to help with the coverage to avoid thinking about her mother’s death.
