San Jose Sharks’ Tomas Hertl is open to staying long term but wants to be compensated in a way that commensurate with the NHL’s other top centerman
SAN JOSE – Tomas Hertl is open to staying with the Sharks long term but said Saturday he wants to be compensated in a way that’s commensurate with the NHL’s other top centerman.
Assistant general manager Joe Will said Thursday the Sharks want to keep Hertl in teal well past this season and was of the impression that Hertl wanted to stay with the team. Hertl, in his ninth season with the Sharks, leads the team in goals and all of the team’s forwards in average time-on-ice and total faceoffs . His deal carries an average annual value of $5.625 million and will be, by all appearances, in line for a significant raise after this season.
“It’s always nice to get years because you work hard work for this moment,” Hertl said. “It’s not often you get this point, maybe once or twice in life, and you just want to get what you deserve.”
