There was another Thursday Night Football game going on, this one at Rupp Stadium, although fans and bands were not allowed in 'out of an abundance of caution.'
Although slightly more populated than this recent file photo, the stands at Shaker High School's Rupp Stadium were also empty on Sept. 14 for the football game scheduled between the Red Raiders and the Maple Heights Mustangs. Due to threats made on social media, the game was played in the absence of fans, families and marching bands.
“One thing about social media is that there’s always a trace, some kind of fingerprint,” Hudson said. “People think what they’re posting is anonymous, but there’s an electronic signature out there that leads back to a device and a source.” He could not comment in the course of the investigation on an alleged assault of a Shaker Heights football player recently in a school restroom that might reportedly be connected to the case.
He added that while the decision was made on relatively short notice, assistance and additional officers were provided well in time through Shaker’s longtime affiliation with Eastside Departments Group Enforcement , including extra bike patrols.
