To provide additional support for the drought hypothesis suggested in this study we investigated theC isotope ratios of wood from four trees from the Gordion chronology: GOR-3 , GOR-77, GOR-82 and GOR-87. This limited sample material was used to test whether there was a consistent indication of drier conditions around the period identified from the tree-ring width analysis, rather than production of a comprehensive, detailed, long-term stableC based climatic record.
Possible juvenile tree rings were avoided, with sampling starting from 50 years , 59 years , 113 years to 383 years after pith or start of sample series. Where possible samples were dissected as single, annual, tree rings within the time period of the study.
