For the second time in as many months, the Camaro factory was hit by thieves.
. Probably. While that change is still a few years away, we bring you some very different factory news regarding the Camaro. Early this morning, per the Michigan State Police, seven brand-new Camaros were stolen from General Motors' Lansing, Michigan plant. Most of the Chevys were quickly tracked down by police shortly after the call came through at 12:17 a.m.
Unsurprisingly, the thieves didn't heed the police's requests to pull over, forcing the authorities to deploy spike strips to bring the ensuing high-speed chases to a halt, but not after the chases stretched into several neighboring counties and approached Detroit to the east. The five Camaros were of course damaged during the pursuits, as you can see from the images provided by the Michigan State troopers.
Two of the Camaros got away, so the police in Southeast Michigan have their work cut out tracking those down. In the meantime, the authorities took into custody nine suspects and say the value of the recovered cars totals $375,000. Well, we're not sure if that's the cars' retail value or post-police-chase-and-crash value, but either way—it's not chump change.
