The Spartans were the only 2-0 team by the end of the night, marking an early change atop the district.
Holly Koopman recorded her first district victory as the Seven Lakes head coach, a win that could be a springboard for a returning playoff team. Abke pounced on the first pitch of the game for a home run. Kaelyn Lerma retired the next three batters, striking out two, but the Spartans added three in the second on a two-run double by Kamryn Wallman and a sacrifice fly by Haley Welch.
“We had some really good at-bats,” Koopman said. “We hit the ball well, put the ball in play a lot. I was very happy with our hitting.” Taylor rallied from a 5-2 deficit to tie Morton Ranch in its 19-6A opener, but the Mavericks prevailed 6-5 as Jiselle Lopez completed a stellar day at the plate with a game-winning single.
The Cougars ended the week with a 3-1 win against Mayde Creek as Amanda Croteau homered twice and Krista Burg struck out seven in a complete game.
