Mr Riley has been remanded in custody and will next appear at Manchester Crown Court on Monday 14 November.
The officer has been suspended from duty while an investigation takes place, and the matter has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, Lancashire Police confirmed. A spokesperson said: “We can confirm that a serving Lancashire police officer has been charged following an incident in Greater Manchester on Thursday.Greater Manchester Police. He has been suspended from duty.The force noted the legal proceedings are active, adding: “It would be inappropriate to comment any further at this time.”
