Police were called to Barr's Brae near John Wood Street, Port Glasgow, around 3.30am on Sunday.
Officers cordoned off the area and were standing guard next to one end of the road, near to a railway bridge in the Inverclyde town. A police car was also parked at the end of the bridge, reports the Daily Record.The force confirmed they had received a report of a serious sexual assault and said enquiries into the incident remained ongoing.
