Senior police officers have raised concerns over transferring Met officers investigating terrorism and serious crime into work on professional standards in the force AlannahFrancis1 reports:

“How do we know that these people have the requisite culture to do the investigation against their colleagues when we’ve already seen that specialist units have these endemic culture issues because theyMr Harding said: “You wouldn’t send a person who wasn’t a suitable to go there [to the DPS], and equally, obviously, you don’t necessarily know who they are deep down anyway sometimes.”

Andy George, president of the National Black Police Association, said failures to adequately “track and trace” police accused of misconduct could lead to officers who had not been held to account for their own misconduct investigating their colleagues. “A particular person with three different grievances lodged against them, they could quite well be moved into this specialist unit because we don’t track people that well this minute in time. I would like to hope that those that are being brought in are being checked or being vetted,” he said.

“People that are going to be targeted most are going to people that look like me, and from the black, Asian and underrepresented groups,” Mr Ehikioya said. Mr George said: “There’s a big fear between our members, between myself and the association that more Black and Asian officers will find themselves at the end of misconduct or disciplinary procedures.”
