On Tuesday, April 19, Senator Dan Sullivan gave his annual address to the Alaska legislature.
The speech, delivered to a joint session of both the state senate and house, included a remembrance of Alaska’s late, long-time Representative Don Young.
Resource development in the state then took center stage, as Sullivan listed items on what he calls President Biden’s “anti-Alaska” environmental agenda. Secretary of the Interior, Deb Haaland, is visiting Alaska this week, and Sullivan encouraged her to commit to various projects around the state, including a gravel road to King Cove.
Finally, the senator discussed opportunities for increased infrastructure in the state, including broadband access. “Historic federal funding over the next five years from this infrastructure bill and the Federal Communications Commission, the Tribal NTIA program and the USDA Rural Connect Initiative should enable us as a state to wire every community in Alaska with internet connectivity if we coordinate well and work together,” Sullivan said.
