Volunteer searchers who have spent almost two weeks hunting for missing Tillicoultry hillwalker Charles Kelly have taken the difficult decision to scale back the operation.
Despite a huge search operation, that has included 50 rescue team members, search dogs and a coastguard rescue helicopter, there is still no sign of Mr Kelly who left his home in Tillicoultry on Wednesday, September 6, to go hillwalking.
“The search has covered a massive area of intricate terrain, but there has been no trace of Charlie since his rucksack was found on Saturday, September 9. The search so far has involved helicopters, dogs, drones, and 10 different mountain rescue teams, including civilian, RAF, and Police MRT.”The team says that if new evidence over Mr Kelly’s whereabouts is discovered then they may potentially step up their search once more.
Rescuers also believe that an orange peel could be key in tracing Mr Kelly. They added: “We would like to hear from anyone who has found a pile of orange peel on the hill in this area. We know Charlie had two with him, but there was no peel in his bag. This may help us work out his route.” Previously, the searchers admitted they were baffled by the disappearance. Mr Kelly’s rucksack was found on September 9, but the water bottles were empty. Brian Bathurst, deputy team leader of Glencoe MRT revealed some further clues that might help find the dad. Mr Bathurst said that Mr Kelly’s rucksack with clothing and some food in it had been found on 864 metre high Beinn Mhic Chasgaig.
