Up 31-16, Clear Lake Intermediate's Julian Liboiron throws a pass to an open teammate near the bucket in Saturday's game against Queens in the Hornets Gym.PASADENA - The Seabrook Intermediate 8A boys basketball team rallied from nine points down in the second half Saturday afternoon to defeat Pearland West 55-49, capturing the Silver Bracket championship at the annual eighth grade San Jacinto Invitational in Pasadena.
The Spartans couldn't relax until Pearland West missed a pair of free-throw attempts with 14 seconds remaining. Had the Wildcats made both freebies, it would have created a two-point difference. Friday night, the Spartans exhibited more of that strong outside shooting when the team defeated Santa Fe 36-30 to open 8A Silver play. This time, the hero was Jordan Foret. After a first half that only saw the Spartans score five points, Foret helped erase a 13-point deficit of 18-5 when he canned three 3-point goals in bang-bang fashion, getting his teammates within two at 21-19.
A Wood bucket snapped a 26-26 tie and then with the lead still just two points, Foret found an open Cooper Jackson to create a four-point lead.Clear Lake Intermediate, competing in Pool B of the Silver Division, captured the consolation prize Saturday with a 48-25 win over Manvel. On Friday, the team lost to La Porte Junior High 35-27, coming back with a 41-25 triumph over Pin Oak, a middle school from Bellaire.
Action in the 8A Gold Division had Victory Lakes representing CCISD. The team struggled, going 1-3. The guys lost to Reading 29-27 and McNair 40-35, defeating Central 46-35, before losing on Saturday to E.F. Green 52-44.
