Screamfest is back in Burton for Halloween at the National Adventure Park - and it's as horribly brilliant as ever
Just a couple of hours earlier, I had been finishing work for the week. Now, here I was in a muddy, pitch-black cornfield with cannibals and rednecks, and a whole manner of human body parts on display. The things we do in the name of journalism.
New for this year is Area 52 , a totally new experience that sees you armed with a paintball gun on the back of a trailer working its way around the cornfields. Alien-infested cornfields I must add. Also new for this year is the Psycho Circus , which is a twisted version of the big top circus we all loved as kids. This is a haunting live show of death-defying gore, where the trapped souls perform in the hope of redemption. Scissors, that’s all I’ll say.
The theming is superb from the queue line of the Diced Heart rock club, to entering the maze through a filthy toilet cubicle. Descending into the sewers is great fun and trust me when I say there are plenty of inhabitants waiting to greet you. I get the worst of the jumps in this maze because I walk around looking at all the theming and forgetting why I am there.
There’s plenty of rednecks and hillbillies to be found in Hillbilly Joe’s Zombee Zoo, a maze that really sets the tone with great set designs from the start. With various actressess continuing the story of Tabatha and her mother throughout the different stages of the walkthrough, it’s really well put together.
