The man from Edinburgh was arrested over claims of espionage earlier this year.
A Scottish Westminster researcher who has been arrested on suspicion of spying for China has said he is “completely innocent”.
“However, given what has been reported, it is vital that it is known that I am completely innocent. I have spent my career to date trying to educate others about the challenge and threats presented by the Chinese Communist Party. The Edinburgh man, who is in his late 20s, was arrested while working as a researcher at Westminster.We have not revealed his identity, but he is a rugby fan from Edinburgh, who was educated at a private school in the capital and at a university in Scotland.The Metropolitan Police’s Counter Terrorism Command, which oversees espionage-related offences, said in a statement: “A man in his 30s was arrested at an address in Oxfordshire and a man in his 20s was arrested at an address in Edinburgh.
It’s been reported that the Scot held a parliamentary pass and has worked with MPs on international policy.
