Catherine Thomson from Fife, lost her dad Tony just four months after he received the devastating diagnosis.

A Scots woman who lost her father to a brain tumour will abseil down the Forth Bridge to raise funds to help cure the disease. The 51-year-old is set to abseil the UNESCO World Heritage Site for the charity Brain Tumour Research on Sunday.

“Then he just became really lethargic. He didn’t have any headaches or pains which is what a lot of people with brain tumours can get, and is probably one of the first symptoms for many, but he didn’t have any of that. “I visited again in April 2017 and dad just wasn’t himself. We couldn’t get a GP appointment, so we took him to A&E at Arrowe Park Hospital in Birkenhead. He had blood tests, but the doctor said he didn’t think there was much wrong with dad. I was concerned and, because of my knowledge of cancer, I insisted they do a scan.

“Dad wanted to fight it, he wanted to do everything he could. But he was due to get radiotherapy but the tumours had grown so much, they couldn’t do it. It was a shock, we didn’t expect him to get ill and go so suddenly.” Catherine also shared that she is also doing the abseil memory of her mum, Linda, who sadly passed away in August this year.

“I really do want to thank everyone who has supported me and donated, especially when people are strapped for cash and the cost of living is just hitting everyone. I am so grateful and touched, and it is amazing that people are supporting me.”
