Blair Drummond has revealed that its beloved chimpanzee Copper, who had been living at the safari park since 2012, has been put to sleep after being diagnosed with congenital heart disease.
The Stirling wildlife attraction revealed that 34-year-old female chimp Copper was put to sleep after experiencing health problems, with her condition deteriorating rapidly.
Copper, who was born in 1988 at the Welsh Mountain Zoo, had been living at Blair Drummond since 2012. She resided at the safari park alongside fellow chimpanzees Chippie and Gill, with the attraction stating that she "became an integral part of the Blair Drummond family". "She had a deep love for the outdoors and would usually choose to sleep under the stars on the island. It was an honour and privilege to be there to hold her hand as she went on to her final rest. We are devastated at this sudden loss."
One wrote: "So sad for you all and for Copper, to hold her hand must have given her great comfort. So beautiful."
