A new sub-strain, which has not yet been formally named, has been identified

Scientists have warned of a worrying recent rise in cases of Covid-19, with one saying it's 'reasonably certain' the country has 'entered another wave'. Some have also suggested people should consider wearing face masks again to halt any spread.

But she said that since the start of July, daily hospital admissions have been increasing and had 'more than doubled' as of August 4 compared to a month earlier. But a brand new sub-strain, which has not yet been formally named but is referred to as 'BA.6', has led some to fear a bleak coronavirus picture could emerge in coming weeks. While it has only been found in two countries so far, Denmark and Israel, one expert has claimed the new sub-strain is already showing an alarming tendency to mutate - and alleges it has left a number of her peers concerned.

Prof Pagel, meanwhile, pointed out under 50s haven't had a vaccine dose for 18 months, and most under 75s for a year. She said it was a 'major concern' that the country could again be hit by a repeat of last winter's flu, Covid and respiratory virus triple whammy.
