Primary schools are set to be the worst off, with 16% of headteachers telling the NAHT that they were expecting a 200% hike in costs.Other measures being considered by schools include cutting spending on equipment for schools, while 30% of school leaders said they’d consider scrapping non-educational support and services for pupils instead.

Paul Whiteman, NAHT’s general secretary, said the hikes would ‘almost certainly have a negative impact on education, and could hamper recovery efforts’.‘Every penny spent in schools is a choice. These increased energy costs mean that money which could be being spent on pupils is being paid to energy companies instead.’
