Saudi Arabia released a U.S. citizen who had been sentenced to 19 years in prison over tweets criticizing the kingdom’s policies that he posted while living in Florida
DUBAI—, his son said Tuesday, following pressure from the Biden administration.
Saad Ibrahim Almadi, 72 years old, was arrested in 2021 after traveling to the kingdom to visit family and convicted on charges that included trying to destabilize the kingdom and supporting terrorism. The charges have been dropped but Mr. Almadi—who also holds Saudi citizenship—still can’t leave the country, according to his son Ibrahim, who spoke with his father by phone.
