But if going to see a play based on one of Shakespeare’s lesser-known works seems daunting, it doesn’t have to be; Mistress Revenge/Lady Virtue explains itself as it goes along, offering plenty of detail for the Shakespeare afficionados in the audience but leaving no one behind. By considering Tamora and Lavinia in the afterlife, Mistress Revenge/Lady Virtue finds power in these women’s legacies; defining them not by what they lost, but who they are. It’s a gem of a play.With clever patter, elegant rhymes, and excellently-planned audience interaction, Witch Hunt: The Musical is a great way for children and their families to experience the Fringe.
The singers do a lovely job bringing their material to life, capturing that fairy-tale magic with some extra-funny twists.Article content And as a genre, commedia dell’arte has always been more than a little silly, exaggerated and over-the-top. In practice, however, the shtick of ‘dirty old man with a particularly immature middle-schooler’s sense of humour annoys and terrorizes everyone around him for an hour’ quickly wears thin.
