Aramis Alvarez-Arroyo, 21, was sentenced to five years in federal prison after pleading guilty to attempted murder in aid of racketeering.

SAN FRANCISCO — A Bay Area man who admitted to trying to murder an alleged gang rival in order to join a Norteño gang subset was sentenced to five years in federal prison, court records show.

Prosecutors say that in April 2020, Alvarez-Arroyo opened fire at a car containing a rival Sureño gang associate in San Francisco. The gunfire damaged the vehicle but didn’t strike anybody. Afterwards, Alvarez-Arroyo allegedly left a digital trail of evidence, including making self-incriminating statements on his Instagram page.

Alvarez-Arroyo allegedly wished to join a Mission District-based subset of the Norteño gang, and was implicated in other acts of violence against rivals, including robbing a perceived rival near 24th Street and Mission Street a year after the shooting.
