Dan McAllister has been in the role of San Diego County Treasurer since 2002 and credits his staff with making the process of paying taxes as easy as possible
As of Monday morning, McAllister had a 381,665 vote lead over his opponent, corporate executive Greg Hodosevich. That makes it mathematically impossible for Hodosevich to win with roughly 165,000 votes left to be counted by the San Diego County Registrar of Voters. Efforts to reach Hodosevich by The San Diego Union-Tribune have been unsuccessful.
McAllister has held the post since 2002, possibly contributing to his 75.2 percent lead. On Monday, he credited the staff of the department for making the process of paying taxes as easy as possible.“We work really hard year-round to make it a pleasant experience,” he said. “Our team does a great job throughout the year of answering questions and trying to help people.”
McAllister said he looked forward to making the department more digitally friendly, with efforts underway to modernize electronic tax billing, payments and related upgrades. The post lasts for four years and oversees a department that collects more than $7 billion in annual property taxes. McAllister also oversees the county’s $14 billion investment pool.
