After only scoring 11 goals in the first nine games of the season San Antonio FC set a new club record for goals in a game in a 7-0 win at Eastern Conference leaders Charleston Battery FC on Saturday night.
SAFC's Niko Hansen is drives to score the first goal during the home opener Saturday night at Toyota Field versus the Oakland Root. Entering the game Charleston had only allowed eight goals in its first nine games of the season.
“First and foremost, we believe in all our players. There’s belief in the locker room, of themselves and of their teammates, and there should be,” San Antonio FC coach Alen Marcina said. “We said you’ve got to continue to trust the process, continue to do the right things as our guys have been doing, and they got rewarded tonight.”
Fabien Garcia put San Antonio up 2-0 in the 20th minute when he headed the ball in off a corner kick. Six minutes later San Antonio FC was up 3-0 when Charleston scored an own goal. Oluwaseyi scored the fourth goal for San Antonio in the 32nd minute on a pass from Niko Hansen.
