Russia said that some units participating in military exercises would begin returning to their bases, adding to glimmers of hope that the Kremlin may not be planning to invade Ukraine imminently.

The United States has moved all remaining embassy personnel to Lviv, Ukraine, due to the rapid buildup of Russian forces along the border.LVIV, Ukraine -- Russia’s military has said some troops massed near Ukraine will begin returning to base on Tuesday following the completion of what it called “exercises," in a potential sign of de-escalation amid continuing fears of a possible Russian invasion.

The vote was denounced in Ukraine, with an advisor to president Volodymyr Zelenskyy calling it an"escalatory action." The Russian announcement that it was pulling back some forces came a day after Russia’s Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu briefed President Vladimir Putin that Russia’s huge military drills would end in the “near future."
