Rough April looms for Astros
Houston has a brutal April slate that starts with a nine-game, three-city road trip to open the season. The team travels to Arlington and Toronto at the end of the month, too, completing a whirlwind journey set in motion by prior cancellations.Sixteen of the Astros' first 22 games are on the road, including opening day on April 7 in Anaheim. Their home opener is not until April 18 against the Angels.
The Astros were supposed to open their season on March 31 with six straight home games — a three-game sets against the Philadelphia Phillies followed by a series with the New York Yankees. Commissioner Rob Manfred postponed the two series on March 1 after the league and union could not come to terms on a new collective bargaining agreement.
The league plans to play the series Manfred canceled, but it is unclear when or how the games will be made up on Houston's schedule.
