Charlotte Maden has decided to help others by running the London Marathon for the first time
A mum-of-two is running a marathon to raise money for Bowel Cancer UK after being diagnosed with bowel cancer at just 38 years old.
Charlotte, who works as a guide dog trainer, said: “I am apprehensive because it is a long way to run but I am excited. Myself and Emma have been out three times a week in all weather, rain, snow or shine.“Bowel Cancer UK has given us great support and their support group has helped us prepare for the run and it has been inspirational to hear everyone’s different stories as to why they are doing this for the charity.
The following month an examination was taken, bloods were drawn and stool samples were given and had her first colonoscopy towards the end of the month which confirmed two polyps. In December she had a second colonoscopy to remove them and they were sent off to the histology for further investigation.
Charlotte joined Bowel Cancer UK’s Facebook forum after being diagnosed for a support network and it has helped her find information about bowel cancer and post-recovery. Her husband, Paul Maden and their children Ellie and Hannah, and Emma’s husband will be at the marathon to cheer the sibling duo on.
