Rossendale mayor dies after life spent dedicated giving children opportunities in life
Tributes have been made to a beloved former Mayor of Rossendale and an ‘outstanding councillor’ who dedicated her time to supporting residents.
Gladys served as a councillor for 12 years, and was Conservative member for Greenfield ward from 2004 to 2016. She served on a significant number of committees during her time as a councillor, and she was also made Honorary Alderman in May 2019. The devoted mother-of-two continued flying out on planes in her 80s to visit Helen and her family in the United States where she would join Helen on hikes while she rode on her mobility scooter. Gladys loved playing games with her grandchildren and looked forward to taking them to museums and a hog farm in Ribble Valley to see the animals. Her husband of 55 years, Jim Sandiford, developed dementia, and she was his caregiver for many years.
“Gladys was involved in numerous projects and committees during her time as both a Haslingden Ward Councillor and also past Mayor of Rossendale she will be sadly missed by her family and friends.”
