The series examines America's opioid crisis from a number of different levels, from a Virginia mining town that has fallen on hard times to a Manhattan big pharma company. Adapted: The Hulu original series Dopesick is based on her 2018 book Dopesick: Dealers, Doctors and the Drug Company that Addicted America
The first three episodes of the eight-episode series debuted in mid-October on Hulu, and received acclaim from fans and critics alike. Dawson posed on the red carpet with her co-star Kaitlyn Dever, who plays Betsy, a female coal miner who is one of Finnix's patients.
